Brief Introduction to the School
of Tourism Management and Geographical Science
School of Tourism Management and Geographical Science in Shenyang University is composed of two disciplines. They are the discipline of Tourism Management and the discipline of Geographical Science. Tourism Management discipline was set up in 1992, which is one of the earlier established Tourism specialty in Liaoning Province. It was identified as Feature Specialty of Shenyang University in 2002 and Teaching Innovation Experimental Unit of Shenyang University in 2007. Geography discipline was founded in 1983, which is the only bachelor-degree program of Geography specialty in Shenyang City at present. The School of Tourism Management and Geographical Science is the vice-chairman unit belonging to Tourism Education Branch of Liaoning Tourism Institute, the designated Tourist Guide Training Unit of Liaoning Province, and the designated Tourism Professionals Training Unit of Shenyang City. The planetarium laboratory is the national and the city’s popular science education base.
The School consists of two departments (Tourism Management Department and Geographical Science Department), three executive offices (School Office, Educational Administration Office and Students' Affairs Office), and one laboratory center.
The School has developed a pride in having the faculty and staff members with an optimized structure of professional post, the higher academic credentials and reasonable age distribution. It currently has a faculty of 35teachers, including 8professors, 12 associate professors. Of these, 30 teachers have held the doctor’s degree and the master’s degree.
The School of Tourism Management and Geographical Science insists on the educational principle of Integrating Theory and Practice, attaches importance on training students’ practical competences, successively setting up many practical bases for teaching in the city of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shenyang and so on. It has trained numbers of graduates with high qualities and great capabilities. The undergraduates took part in social practices actively. They did well in national, provincial, and city-level contests and made a positive contribution to the economic development of Shenyang region in Liaoning Province.
